With the winter winds howling and yet another snowstorm predicted in mere days, this afternoon I just want to retreat to the library with a good book. (Currently, I am reading My Twenty-Five Years in Provence by Peter Mayle!)
Although it’s tiny, my library does have the essentials – some lovely built-in bookcases I had custom built years ago, a classic tufted sofa, a multitude of squashy pillows, and a wonderful reading lamp (absolutely no TV allowed in this room). With a cup of strong tea and cozy throw, it’s my own personal sanctuary.
As much as I love the library, a little sprucing up is necessary from time to time And, since the room opens onto the heavily trafficked kitchen, I would like some continuity of style. So, I’ve researched a few pieces that would mesh quite well with my existing, heavily equestrian-influenced decor. Several are quite affordable, and a few will be placed on my Ultimate Wish List. (After all, Christmas is only 328 days away!)
Hayneedle has recently become one of my go-to sites for home décor and gifts of all kinds. And, their selection of equestrian art and horse-inspired home goods is incredible! One of my faves is the Distressed Black Polystone Horse Head Sculpture, pictured.
The 9W x 6D x 12H in. sculpture is made from natural stone and resin construction and features a detailed head in a textured black “iron” finish with distressed silver rings. (It only looks ancient!) Hayneedle Retail $31.20
Can you ever have too many pillows? (Rhetorical question… of course not!). And, this charming checked pillow cover and insert, shown, is guaranteed to blend beautifully with almost any library décor.
I love the muted plaid, applique details and horse bit detailing. Subtle, but stunning.
The pillow is 15” H x 26” W and made from an acrylic blend (unfortunately it’s listed a s dry-clean only, but it’s so cute, I want it anyway). Wayfair Retail $155.00
Jumping Saddle Art
Displayed on its own or as an accent to a gallery wall, this vintage-inspired art print by Oliver Gal is elegant in its simplicity. It’s a great reminder that someday, when the snow finally stops, I will get outside and ride again!
The print arrives framed and ready to hang with all hardware included and is available in three sizes including 20″ H x 16″ W x 1.5″ D, 24″ H x 20″ W x 1.5″ D, and 30″ H x 24″ W x 1.5″ D. Wayfair Retail $166.99 – $226.99
Stirrup Detail Box
I have a bit of a weakness for boxes – from tiny and colorful enameled trinket boxes, to large, dovetailed wooden crates, plus everything in between. But, these hand-stained, washed leather “stirrup boxes” from Hayneedle, pictured, are some of my new favorites. On a desk or bookcase, they offer a sophisticated and stylish storage solution.
Not only are they lovely, they are so beautifully made! The metal boxes are wrapped with supple leather. The insides are lined with faux suede and include removable top compartments, with handy pockets on the lids. The boxes come in the following sizes: 12W x 8.25D x 4.5H in. and 16.25W x 10.25D x 5.25H in. Hayneedle Retail $297.50
English Riding Horse Lamp
This traditional lamp, shown below, has the look of a classic Remington figure. Handmade in America, the base is hand sculpted, with an eight-step process of hand finishing before it is mounted to the base. The shade is made of neutral, beige linen.
The lamp measures 16¼” x 11½” at base of shade x 23¾” to top of finial and accommodates one 100 watt-bulb. Scully and Scully Retail $485
