A Cheery Red Coat Brightens Up Cold Winter Days

A Cheery Red Coat Brightens Up Cold Winter DaysDid you know that the color red actually makes the heart beat faster? It’s true! Red has always been one of my favorite colors. In fact, my love affair with this bold hue goes back as far as I can remember and over the years includes dozens of sweaters, skirts, dresses, handbags… even a dazzling red beaded evening gown.

While red never truly goes out of style, this year it’s easier than ever to find stunning pieces, from red leather boots, to chunky scarves, to red dresses inspired by Kate Middleton. At Insider, vibrant hues including cheery red were part of the forecast in “Stylists and designers reveal the 8 fashion trends we’ll be seeing everywhere in 2022.” And, Who, What, Wear recently offered their top picks in, “These 24 Red Coats Are Ready for Their Compliments.”

Although I love to wear red all year long, a vibrant shade – candy apple, lipstick, or fire engine red – is especially appreciated in the winter. It’s such a wonderful mood booster when the winter skies are gray. So, when I decided it was time for a new long winter coat, I instantly knew just what color I wanted.

Red, however, is not for the faint of heart. In fact, this bold color practically shouts, “Look at me!” So, choosing just the right piece is essential.

What I found was the beautiful double-breasted coat, pictured, from LOFT in “Tango Red.”

A simple double-breasted coat is a classic look that transcends fads and will last for many years. This wool blend coat features notched lapels in just the right width, contrasting black buttons, and front flap pockets. Because the styling is so sleek and simple, the coat can support such a vibrant color.

The fit is what I call a “body skimmer,” which makes it wonderfully comfortable over bulky winter sweaters. And unlike an extremely fitted coat, it’s easy to wear when I am driving or traveling, without constantly tugging or adjusting (or even having to remove it).

At 42” long, this red coat hits just at the knee. So, I am not in danger of having a skirt or dress peek out from beneath the hem (a personal pet peeve). The length also really shows off my collection of tall boots, especially my favorite equestrian boots.

In addition to Tango Red, this coat is also available in Honey Glaze, Emerald Forest, Classic Black and Pink Melange. Sizes range from XS to XL and, if you are ordering online, they do run “true to size.”

This double-breasted coat retails for $210.00. But right now, you can get 50% OFF using the CODE: XOXO. To see this gorgeous coat, and more beautiful (and affordable!) women’s outerwear, visit LOFT.
