Palazzo Pants Signal the Start of Spring

Palazzo pants from Simplee signal the start of spring! The palazzo pant can trace its origins back to the late 1960s. Wide legged and cropped short, they offered women a slightly more modern take on traditional trousers and an evening option beyond a skirt. Today, palazzo pants are a breezy, fun way to welcome spring’s warmer temps.

According to the Huffington Post, palazzo pants are also part of a larger trend away from tightly fitted skinny jeans and tapered pants. Style reporter Brittany Nims explains in 12 Style And Fashion Trends On Our Radar, “Wide-leg pants are the trouser trend that just won’t let go, and it looks like they’re here to stay. From wide-leg cropped trousers, to high-waist paper-bag pants, you’ll see plenty of these cool and comfortable bottoms throughout the year.”

How to wear palazzo pants

Palazzo pants are incredibly versatile. Paired with a jacket or cardigan, they are less serious than a matched suit, but still look office-appropriate. Or, wear them with a tank and flat sandals on the weekends. They even work with an off-the-shoulder blouse and barely-there high-heeled sandals for date night.

One of my favorite new pairs for work (and play) are the black palazzo pants by Simplee, pictured. These pants are so cute! They are a “kinder, gentler” version of the occasionally extreme paper bag waist style and have a fabric belt, which is removable. (The belt could be easily swapped out for a long scarf to change things up.)

The loose jersey fabric drapes beautifully and flows when you walk (envision Kerry Washington’s pants as she strides through the hallways of the White House in Scandal.) It also does not wrinkle, making these a wonderful pair of pants for travel. You can literally roll them in a ball and they shake out like magic.

These palazzo pants retail for just $20.99. I did a quick shop and came up with comparables that ranged in price from $39.99 (Kohls), to $89,59 (J. Crew), to $239 (Rag and Bone). I chose black, but the pants by Simplee are also available in khaki or white.
