What moisturizes, reduces under eye wrinkles and puffiness? It’s pure gold… 24K Gold Under Eye Masks from SWLKG, that is. If you aren’t familiar with the use of gold in beauty products, this popular treatment has been deemed the next level in self-care.
I admit, I was skeptical at first. But, the shiny metal actually has a long history as a skin treatment (it’s rumored that Cleopatra slept in mask made of pure gold). More recently, gold compounds have been embraced by the estabished medical community and have been successfully used in the medical treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, skin diseases and even tuberculosis.
In a recent Huffington Post article I also learned that, “… gold is an antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties. According to Tabasum Mir, a skincare physician in cosmetic dermatology and cosmetic laser surgery, the metal can calm acne inflammation, reduce skin redness and protect against free radicals that lead to wrinkles and sun damage.”
The type of gold used, however, is essential. In fact, the gold used in skincare is something called nano-active gold. Nano-active gold particles have a diameter of 1 to 100 mm (once dispersed in water, they are referred to as colloidal gold). These tiny nano particles are natural antioxidants and safe for topical use. The hypoallergenic formula works for all types of skin, however, if you have a history of skin irritation, it’s always best to test before using.
In addition to nano-active gold, these wafer thin 24K Gold Under Eye Masks are packed with hyaluronic acid, collagen and Vitamin, B, all of which are essential to promote skin regeneration, restore skin elasticity and firmness and reduce the look of wrinkles and (my personal nemisis) eye bags.
The gold under eye masks are easy to use. Clean face as normal. Apply eye mask underneath the eye, taking care not to come too close to the actual eye since it might cause irritation.
Leave on for 10-20 minutes (I like to use the downtime to multitask with a hair mask and teeth whitening tray!). When finished, you can massage in whatever has not absorbed. My favorite tip? In this crazy heatwave we are experiencing, it’s refreshing to place the masks in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes before use.
My takeaway: This is a soothing process and a great way to decompress after a long day. After using these eye masks, my under eye skin felt moisturized and soft. Fine lines were minimized and puffiness was noticably reduced. Unfortunately, my persistent dark circles were not measurably improved.
Although these did not improve my dark circles, these are still one of my favorite luxurious self-care treatments. Best of all, this luxe treatment doesn’t cost a fortune. These 24K Gold Under Eye Masks retail for just $9.99 for 30 pairs on Amazon! This is a bargain compared to many other options I found online. For example, ULTA’s 24K Magic Hydrogel Eye Masks retail for $17.60 (15 pairs), Wander Beauty’s Baggage Claim Eye Masks are $25.00 (6 pairs), and MZ Skin’s Hydra-Bright Golden Eye Treatment Mask retailed for $106.00 (just 1 set) at Neiman Marcus!
