Nautical Inspired Fashion: A Perennial Favorite

Nautical-inspired fashion is a perennial spring favoriteNautical-inspired fashion is so commonplace today, it is hard to reconcile that in Coco Chanel’s day this styling was nothing short of revolutionary. In 1913, Chanel dared to embrace French sailors’ traditional stripes and reinvent them in her own trademark style. Today, women across the globe know that the crisp pairing of blue and white, black and white, or red and white is a much-needed “palate cleanser” after sober winter hues.

The key to success with nautical-inspired fashion is to think inspired, not literal, and to refrain from overdoing the theme. For example, this casual striped top from Easther has classic appeal, but there’s not a kitchy anchor in sight! The stripes are simply an accent, so they aren’t overwhelming. Plus, since the stripes are only at the neckline, they won’t add any width where you don’t want it, as an allover pattern can. And, the tiny pocket is a charming detail, also drawing the eye upward.

This top makes an excellent transition piece as spring begins to heat up. The fabric is a silky blend of cotton and poly, so it doesn’t look too summery in the spring. (Although, because it’s white, you may want to wear a tank or cami underneath.) And, the ¾ sleeves make it incredibly useful from early spring to late fall.

I personally find that this style is very flattering. I love the loose, swingy look, especially paired with form fitting, flat front / side zip pants or a straight mini. (The flowing lines also cover a multitude of sins if you are not quite ready for swimsuit season!)

This top is available in white with black stripes/gray pocket, as well with red stripes/gray pocket. The top retails onat Easther on Amazon for $18.99.

Notes about ordering: I read other reviews before I ordered, since choosing a size online can be tricky. I selected my normal size and was pleased with the fit. But, you should pay special attention to the measurements provided, not the size, to ensure the best fit. (So get out that measuring tape.)
