In the winter, I ditch my mineral makeup and switch to a creamy liquid foundation. Liquid foundation is infinitely better at hiding my winter-dry skin and provides better over-all color as my summer tan quickly fades away. But, liquid makeup is often tricky (and messy) to apply! In the past, I have always used disposable foam wedge makeup sponges. But, because they are so absorbent, I feel as if half my makeup is wasted. And, after a few washings, the “ick factor” becomes too great and I simply toss them. Recently, I found a new product that is truly amazing – the silicone makeup sponge or blender.
Silicone makeup sponges are used by celebrities, beauty bloggers, and professional makeup artists to apply liquid and cream-based foundation and highlighter, as well as contouring and concealing creams. And, the pretty glitter silicone makeup sponges by COSME are some of the most innovative on the market for shape, size, and color.
What are the advantages of silicone over foam makeup sponges?
- Zero wasted product. Even though these are called sponges, they are really quite different to anything you’ve used before. The silicone provides a non-porous surface. So, your makeup goes on your skin and never gets trapped – or wasted – in your sponge.
- Easy and thorough cleanup. Cleaning a silicone sponge is a snap. I used liquid soap and water, but a swipe with a makeup remover pad will do in a pinch. And, because they have a non-porous surface, they won’t harbor germs or bacteria (a major bonus, especially if you are prone to breakouts).
- Shaped to fit your face. Unlike many competitors (whose shape is disturbingly similar to a bra insert) the COSME silicone sponges come in two useful shapes. There’s a rounded sponge for blending on flat surfaces (cheeks, forehead), as well as a more pointed tip shape to reach into tiny corners and contours (around eyes, nose).
- Sensitive skin-friendly. The COSME sponges are 100% genuine silicone and safe for even sensitive skin.
If you haven’t tried a silicone makeup sponge yet, don’t wait! They take a bit of trial and error at first, but after a few attempts, you’ll be a pro. Retail $18.98 (2 pack) from COSME on Amazon.
