Putting any politics aside, there is no denying that Melania Trump has great style. As a former fashion model, she understands how to wear precisely the right silhouettes, fabrics, and colors. Recent examples that put her on my Best Dressed List include the simple Norisol Ferrari black coat and dress she chose for the wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider. Her combination was both elegant and restrained – a perfect choice for the somber event.
At the opposite end of the spectrum is the long gold Reem Acra column dress she selected as her first formal dress of the Inauguration (for a formal dinner with Mike Pence and his wife). The dress, while dazzling, was simple in shape and design. It was a classic example of the woman wearing the dress – not the other way around.
Of course, the question all fashionistas are asking now is, what will Melania Trump wear to the Inaugural Balls?
Perhaps the most important outfit she will choose over the next four years, this dress will be photographed, discussed, and debated for years.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, Ralph Lauren is reportedly working on a gown for Trump. “The brand’s aesthetic has been seen as a perfect choice for the Trumps, representing a highly sophisticated, idealized version of the American dream.” Other contenders include designers Karl Lagerfeld and Tommy Hilfiger.
I’ve selected a few evening gowns, above. Of course, red, white or blue are the most obvious choices for color. However, Melania Trump may surprise us all with chic black, silver or another shade entirely. Whatever she chooses, it is sure to be spectacular!
