I love the wooden watch trend for men. When I first noticed them popping up in magazine articles, on celebrities, and in my favorite stores last year, I thought that this was a much-needed update to the somewhat staid, traditional men’s wristwatch. And, this season the trend shows absolutely no sign of slowing down. In fact, there are now more wooden watch options than I would have believed possible a mere 12 months ago! But, one of my top choices is from Woodie Specs.
Woodie Specs has long been known for its oh-so-cool, retro-looking wooden sunglasses for men and women. Their expert craftsmanship and attention to detail have made them an instantly recognized (and instantly coveted) brand. The use of high quality materials, such as natural zebra wood, green sandalwood, ebony wood, rosewood, or walnut wood, means that each finished piece is not only unique, but is a veritable work of art.
But, with Woodie Specs wooden watches, they took their gorgeous designs one step further using bamboo – a renewable resource! The bamboo wood makes the watch very lightweight, even though it looks substantial.
Of course, the wood itself is finished beautifully. And, I really like the oversized face. Plus, (just my personal design preference) I think that the thoroughly modern slashes, instead of actual numbers, is a great design contrast to the earthiness of the natural wooden face.
Also, I love that a portion of the proceeds go to support World Vision. I was unfamiliar with the organization, so I did a little research. In a nutshell, “World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.” So, your guy can look good and feel good about the purchase, too!
The watch is also well priced at just $69.00. Many others I have seen from a variety of competitors are about double the cost. Although some of those do have wood link bands, which are probably more expensive to make, I actually like the leather and wood combination better. It’s sleeker and less clunky looking. And, I can only imagine it would be a whole lot more comfortable!
Overall, I think that this is a stunning watch. It’s oversized, so it is perfect for a man. But, the leather band actually makes if very wearable for a woman who likes the oversized look.
The only negative about this watch is that although the band is leather, it is a rough cut style. I like the idea of a combination of leather and wood, but personally, I wish that the band had more finished edges.
This watch (or really, any of the beautiful watches from Woodie Specs) would make an amazing Father’s Day gift. Unique, stylish, and thoughtful.
