When I was 10 years old, my mother enrolled me in “Boots and Saddles Camp” at our local riding academy. To say that it changed my life is an understatement. My lifelong love affair with horses has in fact, been so passionate that both of my daughters were also “bitten by the bug” very early and are accomplished equestrians in their own right! Since we are all so horse-obsessed, our home interior tends to reflect that (and I don’t just mean the dirty boots in the mudroom or the piles of saddle pads to be washed in the laundry!). From artwork, to cushions, to figurines, our home pays homage to “the noble horse” throughout. So, I was thrilled to see that one of my favorite firms, American Estate Jewelry, has recently introduced a line of Silver Equestrian Décor!
Two summers ago, I stumbled upon American Estate Jewelry quite by accident. The company offers absolutely exquisite sterling silver jewelry using old world, artisanal techniques. Every heirloom quality piece is clearly destined to be handed down from generation to generation. And now, that same impeccable attention to detail and craftsmanship is available in their brand new line of stunning home accents.
The collection, which was created by USA-based Galmer Fine Silver, was developed by Michael Izrael Galmer, himself an enthusiastic rider. In fact, Galmer created the 2012 Preakness Trophy, valued at $30,000, which was presented to the I’ll Have Another team earlier this year.
Galmer is one of a few silver artisans using the rare repoussé technique which begins by pressing silver onto a special steel mold and then engraving from the front. All aspects of the process are performed by hand and each piece is hallmarked by Galmer.
One of my favorite pieces in the collection is the Horses Wine Coaster (pictured above). This is a gracious addition to your table and showcases a row of handsome horses in sculptural repoussé sterling. Classic, bold and collectible, this wine coaster is the perfect gift for any horse lover — including yourself! Retail: $672.00
I also adore the Horses Flask (shown, above), which would be oh-so-useful on chilly, pre-dawn hunt days! A stately horse is surrounded by a laurel garland and handsome framing details. The flask has a beautiful supple shape and the sculptural art of rare repoussé sterling. Retail: $749.00
Finally, the Single Horse Julep Cup (pictured, above) is more than simply a cup – it’s a work of art! (My own unadorned julep set pales in comparison.) The American Estate Single Horse Julep Cup features a proud horse perfectly festooned by artful foliage in sterling silver. Retail: $849.00
The Horse Collection is sold at fine home decor boutiques and jewelry stores nationwide.
