It’s no secret that the maxi skirt has made a big comeback in recent years. And, while I love the look on others, I have been hesitant to try it myself. Since I am only 5’5” tall (on a good day!), I thought it would make me look short at best, frumpy at worst.
What I found, though, is that a maxi can be extremely versatile. And, while all style combinations will not work for me (combat boots and concerts tees are definitely in my rearview mirror) other looks can be sophisticated, sporty, or professional –depending on styling.
One beautiful skirt that is wonderfully adaptable is the simple black rayon skirt from Mobius Commerce, pictured. This maxi skirt features a stretchable waistband for a very comfortable fit. Plus, the lightweight fabric is 95% Rayon and 5% Spandex, so it is even more forgiving.
I chose black (since it works with absolutely everything in my closet) but the skirt is also available in classic navy, simple white, chocolate-brown, and fun-loving turquoise. And, at only $15.99 on Amazon Prime, you may want to splurge on one of each!
One note about the fit: When ordering, I would order up one size since I feel that this tends to run just a little small in the waist. For example, here are the approximate measurements before stretch:
- Small: Waist 26″, Hip 36″, Length 40″
- Medium Waist 28″, Hip 38″, Length 40″
- Large Waist 30″, Hip 40″, Length 40″
- XL Waist 32″, Hip 42″, Length 40″
If you’ve been waiting to take the plunge with a maxi skirt, here are some of my favorite maxi skirt styling ideas:
- Tight long-sleeved tee (tucked in) and infinity scarf
- Tank topped with a short denim jacket
- Belted chambray shirt
- Librarian cardigan
- Form fitting, contrasting turtleneck
- Granny vest and statement necklace
Whatever style you choose, give the maxi a try!
