According to the International Gem Society, the garnet has long been considered a symbol of love. And, the fiery red stone is actually one of the world’s oldest known gemstones. In fact, archeologists have even discovered garnet jewelry and talismans in Ancient Egyptian tombs!
I love garnets, especially at this time of year, because their beautiful color and sparkle instantly put me in a holiday frame of mind.
One of my new faves? The Ishanvi Garnet Earrings from Sitara Collections, pictured. Beautifully designed and handcrafted, the pear-shaped garnets dangle merrily from French ear wires. So flirty! And, the hand-faceted, semi-precious gemstones are set in sterling silver with gold plating. I especially love the combination of the warm yellow gold with the deep red garnets. The look works wonderfully with my favorite fall and winter turtlenecks, cozy sweaters and blanket scarves.
The combined length (stones, plus wires) of these garnet earrings is 1 inch. But, because they have a carat weight of only 0.75, they are not heavy and are very comfortable to wear, even all day.
These garnet stunners retail for $48. This same style is also available in amethyst (shown), blue topaz, citrine, iolite and rainbow moonstone. All retail for $48, except rainbow moonstone, which is just $28.
But, one of the most exciting things about these earrings – and everything from Sitara Collections – is that the company is dedicated to giving back to the region that has given the world so much beauty. Sitara contracts with talented artisans in India who are paid fairly for their remarkable designs. This also allows the artists to keep traditional craftsmanship alive, while working from their own villages. I am always inspired by such generosity of spirit, especially during such a difficult year.
