If there ever there was a year that I just wanted to wrap myself up in a blanket, 2020 is the year. Barring the ability to hibernate until spring (or until a COVID-19 vaccine is ready) one of this season’s coziest blanket scarves will have to do!
Although this look has been around for a few years, I’ve never appreciated the concept quite as much as I do this year. Not only does a snuggly blanket scarf allow me to wrap up in what is basically a security blanket, this season’s best also allow me to indulge in a perennial fall fave – festive, mood-boosting plaid!
According to BAZAAR magazine, 2020 is “… a mad, mad world, and a great way to overcome it is with plaid. The exuberant pattern has long been part of fashion’s vernacular, seeing itself in varying degrees on the runways season after season—especially at Burberry, its grandest proponent. But for fall 2020, other labels took the ubiquitous motif for a spin, casting it onto pieces that exemplify each of their aesthetics.”
A cheery plaid blanket scarf wrapped over a turtleneck sweater or tossed over a coat instantly turns a ho-hum outfit Instagramable. And, although I love some of the designer plaids available, my personal top picks are traditional Scottish plaids such as the Stewart and Maxwell.
Plaid blanket scarves are available at all major retailers such as Macy’s or Nordstrom, as well as specialty firms such as FRAAS, a 130+ year old firm whose scarves, season after season, are akin to art. I’ve been a fan of the FRAAS company since 2010. Their truly gorgeous scarves, wraps, ponchos, and stoles are made with the finest yarns, fabrics, and manufacturing methods, for pieces that are always of outstanding quality and design.
