Opening Night Gala at Cannes Film Festival… fashion faux-pas and one shining star

Jessica Chastain Cannes Film Festival 2016

The 69th annual Cannes Film Festival began yesterday and runs through the 22nd of this month. Founded in 1946, the Cannes Film Festival has always served to, “draw attention to and raise the profile of films with the aim of contributing towards the development of cinema, boosting the film industry worldwide and celebrating cinema at an international level.”

While Cannes may have a higher purpose to elevate the film industry, many simply adore the festival for the fashion! For this year’s Opening Night Gala, many celebrities who should have brought their A-games… fell a bit flat. The “misses” were far greater than the “hits,” which (for me) were few and far between.

The worst offenders: Kristen Stewart in sheer Chanel, Vanessa Paradis in pastel and rainbow striped Chanel, Kirsten Dunst in oversized floral Gucci, and Lily Donaldson in a-wardobe-malfunction-waiting-to-happen Saint Laurent.

It was the incredibly talented and lovely Jessica Chastain, however, who stole the show.  Her stunning Armani Privé strapless gown somehow managed to simultaneously channel classic Hollywood glamoursubtle elegance, and draw every eye with bold, risk-taking color!
