Crop Top Trend: Is It for You?

crop top trend for spring

I first noticed the crop top trend last summer when a friend returned from a trip to Russia with a copy of Russian Vogue. Knowing the US couldn’t be far behind, I’ve been just waiting for the emergence of crop tops here!

Crop tops are certainly nothing new. A dozen years ago, tiny tees were a big hit with rail thin preteens who flaunted their concave tummies. Known as belly shirts (delightful) back in the day, they were the bane of my existence then. Ten or twelve years later… several pounds heavier… well, you can guess how I feel about crop tops now!

So, what’s a 40-something girl to do? The answer is volume. Many crop tops are actually not as short as you’d think. Keeping fabric in proportion, making sure your top has sleeves, and avoiding the barely-there bustier look (at all costs) are the keys.

Here are some of my top picks. Still not comfortable? Simply ignore the trend! There’s no fashion law that says you must adopt each and every new trend. Maybe we should leave this one to the preteens? Let me know what you think!
