Lisa Birnbach would be proud! As the author of The Official Preppy Handbook, she introduced the entire world to the distinctive “preppy” look so prevalent in the Northeast way back in 1980. And, over 30 years later, some of the styles that she immortalized are back in vogue this Spring. Nowhere is this more evident than in the selection of practical, canvas totes so necessary for spring and summer living. From my favorite haunts like Old Navy, Abercrombie and Hollister, new colors and patterns update this staple. Stalwarts LL Bean and Ralph Lauren are more a bit more traditional (in fact, I don’t think that LL Bean has changed their classic boat-and-tote at all since I was in high school!).
Extra shoes, water bottle, and a quick change outfit are all jumbled in my tote. Of course, I always have a great book to read outside during lunch. This week it’s Lisa’s book True Prep!
