The safari theme makes an appearance on the runways with regularity every few years or so. For example, a few seasons back, Michael Kors was inspired by a trip to Africa and created a season filled with oversized animal prints, massive tribal jewelry, and the abundant use of reptile skins. Although that particular collection was a bit heavy-handed for me, the Spring Collection by Ralph Lauren is anything but!
When I first saw the show back in September, the temperatures were still balmy, sandals were a staple, and summer color was everywhere. The safari theme felt a little… ho-hum.
After a winter wardrobe filled with black, black, black and some dark grey thrown in for good measure, however, my eye is mesmerized by RL’s use of vibrant amethyst, look-at-me trendy tangerine, and stunning saffron yellow.
I am more than ready to leave the cold, snow, and slush and go on safari with Mr. Lauren!
For me, the key components that make this collection so special are the fresh colors, the innovative use of khaki, and the show stopping jewelry. Lauren combines them effortlessly and the result is incredibly simple, sophisticated, and very wearable. Above are a few of my favorite looks.
