Great Gatsby Inspired Pearls With A Modern Twist

Great Gatsby Inspired PearlsSumptuous sets and dazzling costumes are some of the hallmarks of a Baz Luhrmann production and the recently released film The Great Gatsby does not disappoint. The visual splendor of the film alone is enough reason to see it in theatres! I’ve always adored 1920’s fashions – headbands, drop-waist dresses, and yards and yards of fringe! But, one of my favorite looks from the film is the long pearl necklace. Great Gatsby inspired Pearls worn in ones or twos, knotted, or embellished with ornaments… this is a look that is as timeless as the story of Jay and Daisy.

According to fashion historians, in the 1920s, pearl necklaces in the form of simple strands reflected the fashion for streamlined, unfussy designs. These pieces were known as sautoirs. And, the long pearl necklaces could measure more than 30 inches and be decorated with a tassel as a pendant.

Today, I’ve highlighted three variations on the traditional pearl necklace above. These are elegant Great Gatsby inspired pearls with serious style, plus a bit of extra panache for this season.

I wonder… are you adopting any Gatsby style into your wardrobe this spring?
