Hand Crafted Copper Jewelry: Giveaway!

Hand Crafted Copper Jewelry: Giveaway!Beautiful Brattleboro, Vermont is a town noted for its vibrant arts community. In fact, it was listed in John Villani’s book The 100 Best Small Art Towns in America and boasts a monthly event known as the Gallery Walk, the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, the Hooker-Dunham Theater and Gallery, the In-Sight Photography Project,River Gallery School, and the Windham Art Gallery. For a town with a population hovering at a mere 12,000, that’s a lot of art! Brattleboro is also home to extraordinary jewelry designer and artist Lisa Flanders, whose stunning hand crafted copper jewelry and silver pieces are lovingly crafted using fabrication techniques like texturing, forging, soldering, stone setting and finishing. For 25 years, Lisa has been creating unique art jewelry using traditional metalsmithing skills — with decidedly non-traditional results!

Deeply textured, two-sided earrings in copper, by Lisa Flanders

Lisa’s Etsy site is filled to overflowing with gorgeous, must-have pieces. Of her work, Lisa says, “To me, earthy, organic, hand-wrought shapes and textures, combined with beautiful natural gemstones, symbolize the essential, primeval energies of life and hearken back to a simpler time in our complex human journey.”

A few of my top picks include the Copper Cuff pictured. The urban-industrial geometric pattern is hand wrought and is a true statement piece. Paired with some of fall and winter’s beautiful, earthy colors, this cuff is sure to make heads turn! Cuff is 2″ wide and a standard 6″ long.

I also adore Lisa’s Copper Hoop Earrings. These hand-cut earrings are textured and fabricated from substantial copper stock. They are also textured identically on both sides, allowing them to be worn in either ear and be visible from all angles. The Copper Hoop Earrings are 1 1/2″ in diameter and hang approximately 2″ from top of hypoallergenic titanium ear wires.Hand Crafted Copper Jewelry: Giveaway!. One-of-a-kind copper necklace crafted entirely of salvaged objects, by Lisa Flanders

Saving the best for last is my absolute favorite piece — the Salvaged Object Assemblage Necklace in Copper, Turquoise and Raw Garnet. This is truly a one-of-a-kind necklace was crafted entirely from salvaged fragments found at a Vermont flea market! The solid copper (originally plated with silver) medallion has endured decades of handling which has worn the plating off in places, giving it a lovely, distressed look. To these fragments Lisa added natural gemstones, glass beads and other salvaged objects to create an absolute show stopper. Centerpiece is 3 5/8″ at widest point and 1 7/8″ tall. Total length from top of metal to bottom of large beaded dangle is 3 1/2″. Chain is approximately 16 1/2″.
