Equestrian Inspired Fashion For Everyday

Equestrian Inspired FashionI love the ponies. No – not the sleek thoroughbreds from the racetrack, just the furry, fun-loving peewee-sized ones that live at our barn! Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve had a “thing” for horses (my mother might refer to it as my obsession). And, it appears that I’ve passed this passion along to my girls, both of whom also ride. As an avid equestrian, I’ve noticed that various pieces of riding gear stylish enough for everyday wear. (I should admit that sometimes I’m just too lazy to change outfits, but since the style has been adopted by legions of non-riders I’m calling it equestrian inspired fashion.) The ubiquitous barn coat in khaki and suede looks fantastic over jeans. Lined gloves with rubber grippy palms are perfect for wrangling a freezing steering wheel. And, don’t even get me started on Wellies!

So, a few weeks ago, when I saw the lovely editorial spread on equestrian style in Town and Country magazine (image above), I was inspired to share some of my own favorites. No worries about looking too dapper. There are no pinks (scarlet hunt jackets) or riding crops (unless you’re into that). These are just a few easy pieces that you can easily incorporate into your wardrobe for fall.

  • Hunter shoes ($318 – footcandyshoes.com)
  • Tignanello flap handbag ($119 – macys.com)
  • Lauren by Ralph Lauren leather bangle ($38 – bloomingdales.com)
  • Codello black scarf (£54 – mylabel.co.uk)
  • Vince Camuto double buckle belt ($60 – vincecamuto.com)

Don’t have a budget for expensive, designer pieces? I’ll let you in on a secret – I sometimes shop at horseman’s paradise Dover Saddlery for the real thing – and at a fraction of the cost!
