I love to decorate for the holidays… any holidays. But, with one child just graduated from college, one currently a sophomore with plans for grad school, and one headed to college next fall, pricey decor is out of my budget for the foreseeable future! So, this Easter, I got creative with DIY Easter Decor Crafted From Thrift Shop Finds, “shopping” my existing decor, and unearthing some remnants of craft projects past. The results? See below!
The mock topiary was created from a wooden candlestick, a metal Dollar Store pumpkin (I used wire cutters to remove the stem and leaves), an AC Moore bird and nest, plus some ivy vines which were leftovers from a wreath project. Total cost: Under $3
The cloche and base are not really a match and were sourced at a local thrift shop in two different trips. (The top is actually the top of a broken anniversary clock!) The pink Depression glass goblet was one of my Grandmother’s which had been packed away for years. The nest, eggs, and moss were left over from a project from last Easter. Total cost: $1.18
This vintage crystal cake pedestal was a major score at a thrift store for only .59! The candle ring and nest were also thrift store finds (after Easter last year). Total cost: Under $1
The birdcage was picked up at a wicker store in Cape May, NJ over 20 years ago. It has migrated throughout my house ever since, appearing in various rooms, often empty, but occasionally housing a plant or holiday decor. This spring I added books (free, from my bookcase) and an inexpensive resin bird and nest from a thrift store. Total cost: Under $1
These bunnies are some of my favorites! They were a gift from a cousin about 10 years ago and they always make an appearance at Easter. This year, they are housed in a lantern from Pottery Barn. The price tag was still attached when I bought it. The original price was $39, but I only paid $2 in a thrift store. (Full disclosure, the glass is a little scratched, but I put the “bad side” to the back). Total cost: $2
This gorgeous copper terrarium was a Christmas gift from a client. Inside, I printed off a vintage book page showcasing various eggs and put it inside a frame I already owned, then added a thrift store nest, as well as a tiny terracotta pot from a spring wreath project I did about 15 years ago. (Much to my husband’s dismay, I NEVER throw anything away!). Total cost: Under $1
One of my favorite projects this year! The plate is part of my eclectic blue and white everyday dish collection. The urn was sourced at a thrift shop for .15. I have had the bunny for at least 15 years (I think he came from the Dollar Store originally.). The nest, ivy, moss and tiny flower pot are all saved from previous projects. Total cost: .15
Now that my house is decorated, I am ready for a spectacular Easter. Hope yours is wonderful, too!
