Of all the rooms in your home, your bedroom is the most personal and the one that your guests and visitors probably won’t see. That means it’s the ideal space to decorate in the way you really want to and to make it reflect your personality better than anywhere else in the house – it can become a real sanctuary and a space you love being in.
The issue is that, although this is wonderful and gives you plenty of freedom, there are lots of different options you can pick from, and sometimes it can feel a little too overwhelming. That can mean that you just decorate your bedroom in the same way as you decorate the rest of your home, which might be ideal for some but might not be right for you. With that in mind, here are some helpful tips to ensure you choose a style for your bedroom that you’ll love.
Think About Your Personal Taste
Before you start looking online or diving into design magazines, think about your personal taste and what you would like your ideal bedroom to look like and include. Think about the colors, patterns, and textures that you love the most, and work out how to include them in your bedroom in the best way – even if you can’t or don’t want to include them all in the finished design, this is a great place to start, and it might trigger some more ideas that will give you the bedroom of your dreams.
If you already have something that you definitely want to include in your bedroom, such as a t-shirt quilt made from old clothing that brings you memories and lots of comfort, you could design your room around that to ensure it’s included as well – as long as you have a place to start, other ideas will begin to flow.
Think About Your Lifestyle
The best bedrooms are the ones that work well with someone’s lifestyle because that will make them happiest and make it easier for them to design the room. You might be a minimalist, for example, who loves clean lines and simplicity – that’s how your bedroom should look in that case. Or maybe you’re a collector, so it would make sense to include plenty of room to display your prized possessions in your bedroom; you’ll be able to enjoy them as much as possible that way.
Other things to think about include whether you have kids (and if they’re allowed in your room) or pets (again, perhaps they’re not allowed in your bedroom), if you work from home and need a desk in your bedroom, and so on. Your bedroom needs to look great, but it has to be functional, too, so everything has to be taken into account.
Mix and Match
Of course, if you limit yourself to just one style, you might not find the look you really want, so why limit yourself at all? You can always mix and match, taking some ideas from one style and some from another, combining them all together to make them work in a way that makes you happy.
The great thing about interior design is that, in the end, it’s your choice, and you don’t have to follow any ‘rules’ at all. Sometimes it’s better not to and to just go with your heart as this can give you the very best results.
