How to Make Easy Paper Bunting Decorations for Your Besties this Galentine’s Day

Easy Paper Bunting Decorations for Your Besties this Galentine’s DayOn a 2010 Parks and Rec episode, the concept of “Galentine’s Day” was introduced to the general public. The response was instantaneous and overwhelming.

Today, what began as a fictional holiday is now widely celebrated each year on February 13th to honor female friendships. And really, why not? Your besties are the ones who are always there for you and deserve a little love. This is a perfect chance to show your gal pals just how much you love and appreciate them.

So, even if you don’t normally decorate for Valentine’s Day, for Galentine’s Day this year, make a drinks party or dinner extra special with a few easy paper bunting decorations. These banners and bunting suggestions are all made of paper and other materials you may already have, so they are budget friendly. And, each design can be created in mere minutes.

Charming Paper Hearts Chain

What could be easier? Simply cut colored paper into strips (or tear if you want a more rustic look). Staple one to the next and pinch the edge. Festoon a cabinet, hutch, bookcase or mirror.

Paper Pennants and Clothes Pins

Paper pennants can be made using a variety of papers (scrapbook paper is my preferred weight). Just cut into the desired shape (triangular, tab, etc.) and attach to a string, ribbon, yarn, or twine with a clothes pin. Decorate, or leave plain if time is tight.

Paper Heart Cutouts

Paper heart cutouts take a bit more time, but the effort is well worth it! Hearts in a variety of patterns gives a whimsical look to this bunting. Use craft paper, scrapbook paper or even wrapping paper. (A heart shaped punch makes the process go infinitely faster than hand cutting. A 2” heart punch is available on Amazon for just $16.99)

Paper Envelopes

Want to make a big impact but feel your crafting skills are lacking? This bunting is 100% fool-proof. Simply take envelopes and string them on baker’s twine or ribbon and affix with a heart shaped sticker. (Leftover envelopes from old thank you notes or holiday cards can be used if you want to vary the size and color.)

Playing Cards

No craft supplies? Grab a pack of old playing cards and pull out all of the hearts. Use a hole punch and string along ribbon, raffia twine, or even holiday curling ribbon. Embellish with ribbon or beads if you have them, or leave it plain.

Vintage Inspired Images

If you have the time, printing vintage images, and embellishing them with Victorian trim makes a sweet bunting. To find free images to print, I suggest The Graphics Fairy.

Embellished Doilies

Paper doilies in red, pink, and white instantly remind me of grade school and a lovingly handmade “Valentine’s Box.” Inspire nostalgia with an enchanting doily display.

Book Pages

Book pages can be taken from an old book destined for the recycling bin. Whether you chose prose or poetry, this bunting will surely “speak to” your guests! No books? Print your own pages (try Wikimedia Commons for text in the public domain).

Sheet Music

As with the book pages, real sheet music can be used for this project, or print your own. Embellish with stickers, ribbon, etc.
