On a bright sunny day in July, it’s easy to remember to slather on sunscreen whether you are lounging poolside, boating on the lake, or enjoying a swim at the beach. Unfortunately, too many of us forget that sunscreen is also essential in the fall and winter months. Even though the sun’s rays are weaker in the fall and winter, over months and years, those hours in the sun add up. I have used plenty of different sunscreens over the years. But as my sensitive skin becomes more and more finicky, I’ve had to shelve a few of my long-time favorites (on a vacation to Spain last year, my skin actually swelled up after using a tried-and-true brand – those trip pictures were not great, to put it mildly).
So, I was excited, but a bit nervous, to try Vichy Minéral 89 Sunscreen SPF 30. This is a daily sunscreen with broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. Because it is certified by dermatologists, as well as fragrance-free and oxybenzone-free, I was cautiously optimistic.
After a trying a test patch over the course of a few days, I took off the training wheels. Luckily, I had absolutely no adverse reaction. So, I’ve been using the product daily for almost two weeks.
My thoughts? This is a wonderfully effective sunscreen for both daily use and intense sun exposure. For example, I spent almost 8 hours at a horse show last week and had zero redness or sunburn (although, to be fair, I did reapply several times throughout the day).
The product comes with a little pump, so the delivery method is more precise than a tube or spray, with far less waste. And, the lightweight formula applies easily, and penetrates quickly, without a greasy feeling left behind.
