Compass Coffee: Coffee Done RIGHT

Compass Coffee Autumn BlendMy daughter did her undergrad in Washington, D.C. During her four years in that beautiful city, she discovered an incredible array of truly fabulous places – from monuments to museums, theaters to concert halls. And, as a self-proclaimed “foodie” she also found the best that the city had to offer from bakeries (Sprinkles), to bars (The Tombs), to restaurants (Sweetgreen and Farmers, Fishers, Bakers). But, one of her top finds was Compass Coffee … and ever since, it’s my favorite, too!

Compass Coffee has several adorable café locations throughout the city and into Virginia. But, even though I don’t live in our nation’s capital, I can still enjoy one truly amazing cup of Joe (or four?) every morning, because their special blends are available online at incredible prices – $7.99 for a 12 oz. tin (French dark roast) or $15.99 for a 12 oz. tin (Embassy Blend). Of course, I prefer the 5 lb. bag, so I can be sure that my new coffee station never runs out!

Not only is the coffee exceptional, the story behind the company is, as well. Two friends and former Marines bonded over coffee and brewing techniques during training and deployment to Afghanistan. When they returned to the States, they founded Compass Coffee.

Why a compass? I imagined it was because Marines are always prepared for anything. (Trust me. My dad was a Marine.) But, according to founders Michael Haft and Harrison Suarez it’s a bit more aspirational. “We made the points of the compass our logo as a reminder that, if they do nothing else, our coffee and our cafes will always help our customers get their bearings and point them in the right direction for the rest of the day.” As a die-hard coffee addict, that’s a sentiment I can certainly understand!

Ready to try Compass Coffee? I suggest the  Autumn Blend. Unlike fall’s pervasive (and dare I say, overdone?) “pumpkin spice,” this brew has milder hints of maple sugar, vanilla, and toasted oats, making it a perfect way to start the season’s crisp mornings.

Visit Compass Coffee to learn more and order your coffee today. Retail $16.19 for a 12 oz. tin (pictured), $39.59 for a 2 lb. bag, and $76.49 for a 5 lb. bag.
