Garden Inspiration: 9 Birdhouses Created With Found Objects

Garden Inspiration: Birdhouses Created With Found Objects!A few years ago, I visited scenic Telluride, Colorado. In addition to the breathtaking mountain views, I was impressed by the amazing number of craftspeople and the diversity of the art. (Telluride’s thriving art scene even includes the Telluride Arts District – a remarkable concentration of arts and artists.) But, while the “highbrow” art was aspirational, I was more obsessed with the… birdhouses. Yes, you read that correctly! Local artisans have turned birdhouse making, using unusual found objects, into a true art form.

What kinds of found objects you might ask? Well… these are artists, after all. So, it appeared that nothing was off-limits. Forks, bottle caps, beach glass, doorknobs, license plates, costume jewelry… these birdhouses were practically an explosion of creativity.

Since Spring is just around the corner, I’ve been planning my Spring garden updates. And, I think a birdhouse (or 10?) is in order. While I may not be an artist, I may even try my hand at embellishing one myself!

If you’re interested in a fun craft project, I’ve showcased a few of my favorite examples as a little inspiration. Michael’s Crafts and Hobby Lobby have some inexpensive frames to get your started. Or, use additional found objects for a truly one-of-a-kind art piece (pots, gourds, baskets… the sky’s the limit).

Your birdie friends will thank you!

These birdhouses are so beautiful! What a great way to upcycle old things as well, I am definitely going to have to make one with my kids now.
