If you’re a fan of Poldark, Downton Abbey or Bridgerton, you know that most of the world’s problems can be solved with a cup of tea. Of course, it’s not just the Brits who have discovered tea’s soothing properties. Many of us “across the Pond” have also found that unraveling financial issues, wrangling recalcitrant teens and navigating office politics feels a bit easier after “a cuppa.” For me, one of the best parts of “taking tea” is the beautiful ceremony of the event. And, whether afternoon tea is served formally in the drawing room or casually in a home office, several specialized kitchen tools are required including an oh-so-proper whistling tea kettle.
The whistling tea kettle from Belanko pictured is a new – and most welcome – addition to my kitchen. Previously, I had been using a vintage, 1970s “Spice of Life” Corningware teapot from my mother, complete with a decade-defining avocado green and rust design. While it boiled water and poured perfectly well, it definitely did not add any style to my kitchen. Plus, it didn’t have a whistle! So, if got distracted, it could pose a safety issue. But, the new tea kettle from Belanko has a warning whistle that I can hear, even from another room.
It’s also lightweight, but sturdy. It’s constructed of food-grade, rust and corrosion resistant stainless steel, so it will last for years, even with sustained use. And, it works equally well on an induction stovetop, electric stove or natural gas burner.
And, it’s so pretty! The blue granite speckled design is perfect for my blue and white kitchen. But, the best part of this sweet tea kettle is the beautiful handle and spout. It’s got a wood grain look, but is covered with silicone. So, it has a soft feel that is easy to grip. (Note: Although the manufacturer says that the handle will not get hot, I have a natural gas stove, so I am always cautious. My handle did get warm. Be aware if you’ve got a rolling boil going, you’ll need to use a cloth on the handle.)
