Why Should You Buy A Standing Desk For Your Home Office?

Why Should You Buy A Standing Desk For Your Home Office?Working from home can mean sitting… all day. Have you been wondering whether you should buy a standing desk / sit-stand desk for your home office? A sit-stand desk or standing desk has some amazing benefits. Here are just a few:

Enhancing Your Productivity

The best thing about the standing desk or  sit-stand desk is that it has been proven to be the ideal way to increase output and enhance concentration. When you remain in the standing position, your body’s largest muscles stay active. According to the WebMD article, Standing Desks: How They Help You Beat Inactivity, “In a study of call center employees, those with standing desks were 45% more productive on a daily basis than employees who sat during their shift.”

The standing position helps to encourage your blood flow, as well. And, standing can be more comfortable than staying seated throughout a long day of work.  Research even says that it can enhance your ability to take your creativity to the next level!

A Standing Desk Helps You Stay Healthy

A sit-stand or standing desk does increase productivity, which is important. But, it also helps to keep you healthy, which is vital. Sitting 8-9 hours each day is simply not good for the body, and scientific studies confirm this. According WebMD, a standing desk helps lower the risk for heart disease and obesity, as well as reduces back and neck pain.

Even if you exercise daily, if most of your working hours are spent nestled in a desk chair, your health can suffer. (Haven’t we all heard that “sitting is the new smoking?”) People who sit all day long can develop diabetes and other lifestyle-oriented diseases.

Working in a standing position helps you keep moving, unlike working whilst seated. The risk of repetitive strain injury (such as carpal tunnel syndrome) is also decreased when you work using correct right posture. A sit-stand desk improves both movement and posture.

Burn More Calories

Why Should You Buy A Standing Desk For Your Home Office? If you are calorie conscious (and frankly, after the past year and a half of COVID-19, who isn’t?), a standing desk can help you burn more quite easily. According to Healthline, “When you stand, you burn anywhere from 100 to 200 calories an hour. It all depends on your sex, age, height, and weight. Sitting, by comparison, only burns 60 to 130 calories an hour.” That can quickly add up!

Proper Posture Counts

To gain the maximum benefit, you’ll need to maintain the ideal posture while standing:

  • Shoulders must be relaxed, not hunched.
  • Back should be straight.
  • Pelvis should remain in neutral alignment.
  • Make sure that your hip, knees ankle joints are aligned.

Standing Offers A Great Opportunity To Do Some Exercise

When you work in a standing position, you also get have opportunity to do some light exercise. These can include stretches, calf exercises, leg raises, and more. (Check YouTube for some great standing desk exercises that you can easily build into your day.)

With the holidays just around the corner, a sit-stand desk makes a great holiday gift idea. Or, give one to yourself to improve your health in the New Year.  I call it… out-standing!
