If you think oatmeal and honey are only for breakfast, you’re missing out on some of the best healing and soothing beauty ingredients around! During the summer, skin can easily become irritated from excessive sun exposure, the drying and salty ocean, and over-chlorinated pools. But, I’ve recently discovered a simple and all-natural solution honey and oatmeal soap from Manuka.
This soap contains Manuka honey from New Zealand and oatmeal. Both are perfect for soothing dry, irritated or sunburned skin. This soap is also made with other all natural ingredients including olive, palm, and coconut oils.
It is non-scented, but has a natural and clean fragrance, which is never overpowering or too perfumed. I think that it’s just perfect for summer!
The soap is also so smooth and creamy – no giant flakes of exfoliating oatmeal here. And, it produces a generous, velvety lather, which rinses easily, leaving behind skin that is clean, soft and naturally moisturized.
Why choose the healing power of honey?
According to Web MD, “Honey protects against damage caused by bacteria. Some honey also stimulates production of special cells that can repair tissue damaged by infection. In addition, honey has an anti-inflammatory action that can quickly reduce pain and inflammation once it is applied.”
But not all honey offers the same level of effectiveness. The antibacterial quality of honey depends on the type of honey, as well as when and how it’s harvested. One of the best? Manuka honey from New Zealand!
Soothing summer dry skin with oatmeal
An oatmeal bath is a tried and true method for relieving itchy skin (remember when you had the chicken pox or poison ivy as a child?). And, oatmeal’s healing properties are not just one of Grandma’s old wives’ tales. The science behind oatmeal’s effectiveness is sound.
The American Academy of Dermatology says, “itchy, dry skin often has a high pH level, but oatmeal can help normalize your skin’s pH, which can relieve itchy, uncomfortable skin.” Turns out that Grandma was right!
