Maybe it’s the imagery of Belle’s ball gown from the new Beauty and the Beast live action film. Or, maybe it’s the “La La Land dress effect.” But, the feeling is universal. Yellow is on everyone’s must-have list for spring – from Tomas Maier, to Tibi, to Ralph Lauren. Why wear yellow this spring?
According to Bernardo Tirado in What Does The Color You Choose Say About You? The Color Test (Psychology Today), selecting yellow means, “You enjoy learning and sharing your knowledge with others. Finding happiness comes easy to you and others would compare you to sunshine.”
Who can argue with that?!
Yellow is bright and fun-loving, like an instant dash of joy. If a smile could be a color, it would be yellow. (Wait… a smiley face already is yellow!)
Yellow can be tricky. Here’s how to wear it… beautifully!
There are many shades of yellow from which to choose. Some have a more orange tone, some more of a green cast. And, wearing the color can be tricky.
“Warm” complexions shine in yellow (think Hoda from TODAY). But if you have “Cool” coloring (with blue / pink undertones), warm colors aren’t your best bet (a good example is Scarlett Johansson). Instead, try a pale, icy yellow which plays nicely with cool skin tones, eye, and hair color.
If you are still unsure, don’t cross yellow off your list quite yet! Instead, play it a bit safe. Add yellow in small doses, below the waist, away from the face. Try a pencil skirt or sandals, a handbag, belt, or a stack of bangles.
