Washi tape makes DIY decorating simple

Washi tapeWashi tape, those colorful, whimsical tapes made from Japanese rice paper, are a DIY enthusiasts’ dream. Washi tape makes almost any DIY project so easy! From scrapbooking, to creating custom picture frames, to adorning just about anything. If you can unroll regular masking tape, you can create beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces for your home, or for use as gifts.

Although washi tape is available at most local craft stores, I recently discovered a multi-pack from Crafty Rolls that is not only adorable, but incredibly affordable, too. The multi-pack includes ten fun patterns in bright, fanciful colors (see image, above).

Cupcakes with washi tape pennants 1And, each roll is 30+ ft. long. So, your multi-pack includes over 300 feet for just $14.99. That’s a lot of washi tape!

This is also a high quality tape. It can be repositioned as you create, but will stay put once you have it pressed down exactly where you want it.

I find that Pinterest is a great source for ideas. Although the site is filled with inspiring, over-the-top washi tape creations on large surfaces like cabinets, doors, and even walls, I personally like to use my washi tape in somewhat smaller doses. The charming prints are small. So, a few of my favorite projects include:

  • Washi tape thank you cardTiny pennants to adorn thank you notes and cards
  • Colorful drink stirrers
  • Picks for cupcakes and other fancy desserts
  • Embellishment for plain gift tags
  • Labeling for electronic cords
  • Custom binder clips and paper clips
  • Bunting for cakes (use two bamboo skewers for the poles)
  • Decorate wrap (in addition to plain wax paper) for homemade candy or soap

Also, I do not use washi tape for items or pieces that get a lot of handling or use. Although it looks cute, covering a phone case, notebook spine, or drawer pull is probably not a good idea in the long-term.

In addition to the geometrics patterned washi tape multi-pack pictured, Craft Rolls also offers other patterns including Hearts & Flowers and Christmas Holiday Designs & Shapes.
