Cure for Dark Circles? YES! …and No.

Cure for Dark Circles? YES! ...and No.In the warm weather, I tend to go a lot lighter on my makeup. During the winter I use multiple layers of concealer, foundation, finishing powder and blush. But, the combination of summer’s heat, perspiration and makeup is not a pretty mix. Have you ever seen someone with makeup practically melting off of her face? Ugh!

So, I rely even more heavily on proper skincare when it is warm. And, nowhere is this more important than the delicate skin around my eyes.

Unfortunately, I have dark circles that have plagued me for years. In part, they are inherited (lucky me). And, a recent trip to the dermatologist confirmed what I already guessed. My dark circles, officially known as Periorbital Dark Circles, cannot be magically erased.

According to Wikipedia, “Like varicose veins, dark circles under the eyes are usually an inherited trait. When blood passes through the large veins close to the surface of the skin, it can produce a bluish tint. The more transparent the skin [also an inherited trait] the darker the circles appear.”

Since my dark circles are apparently here to stay, what do I do?

Camouflage!

I compensate by paying special attention to other eye issues that can also age me – like under eye “bags,” puffy eyes, and of course, crow’s feet and wrinkles.

Recently, I tried Mediderm Eye Bag and Dark Circle Eraser Cream, a thick, luxurious cream specifically formulated to help care for the tender skin around the eyes. The cream contains crucial peptides, which help eliminate under eye bags and puffy eyes, as well as combat stubborn fine lines and wrinkles.

According to author Dana Oliver, Executive Fashion and Beauty Editor at The Huffington Post, “if you’re searching for the one skincare ingredient you need to fight wrinkles, scan the packaging for the word “peptides.”

But, what are peptides and why are they so effective?

Peptides are actually just molecular links of amino acids. These amino acids help your skin produce the anti-wrinkle protein known as collagen. Young women have lots of collagen (and enviably taut, wrinkle-free skin). Older women have less. Replacing collagen is the key to helping skin regain firmness.

And, this incredibly hydrating Mediderm cream does just that. I have been using it twice a day and, while my dark circles didn’t disappear, the under eye bags and puffiness are greatly reduced. My deep wrinkles are still there, but the finer lines that appear when I smile are far less noticeable.

I just gently pat it on before applying makeup and again sometime after dinner (I use a separate night cream). A little goes a long way and it absorbs quickly and thoroughly. After two weeks, my skin definitely feels softer and more elastic.

A 1 oz. jar is available for $19.97 from Mediderm Laboratories on Amazon. The company also offers other powerful and highly effective skin treatments and includes product lines such as Mediderm Hydra Cleanse and Instant Face Lift Concentrate.
