For years, I’ve watched a parade of celebrities on television touting the benefits of the Proactiv Skin Care System. Everyone from Katy Perry, to Kaley Cuoco, to Julianne Hough profess that Proactiv is the greatest thing they’ve ever tried. But, how good could it really be, I wondered?
Pretty darned great, it turns out!
I recently received a sample of the Proactiv Skin Care System from FacingAcne.com and not a moment too soon. My daughter is a senior in high school and is experiencing all of the normal stress that accompanies this transitional year… AP classes, SAT scores, a crammed crew schedule, finding a dress for Homecoming… and don’t even get me started on the pile of college applications!
All of this added stress has caused some unwanted breakouts, so she happily agreed to be my Proactiv test subject. Here’s the honest truth about Proactiv:
Renewing Cleanser. This is an oil-free formula for a gentle, but thorough cleansing. The wash contains highly effective benzoyl peroxide to dry up excess oil, as well as micro beads for exfoliation. This is a really important step because deep cleansing of pores and ridding skin of excess cells, dirt and grime is essential for a clear complexion. You can feel it working!
Revitalizing Toner. An alcohol-free formula, toner is a step than many tend to skip, but shouldn’t! Easily applied with a cotton ball, the toner feels refreshing on skin and helps clear up any excess oil. This is part of the system, but is great for quick clean ups in the middle of the day, too, especially in warm weather or after sports practice.
Repairing Treatment. This cream/lotion is safe enough for the entire face, neck and upper arms, but is especially helpful for spot use, by clearing up existing blackheads and blemishes.
The Proactiv slogan, “Change Your Skin, Change Your Life” may sound a bit grandiose, but, to anyone who has suffered a breakout on the eve of a big dance or important college interview, it’s not far from the truth. My daughter’s skin is absolutely clearer and brighter than when she started the regimen. And, her new breakouts are at a minimum. (It is important to note here that my daughter has average, occasional breakouts, but not chronic, cystic acne, which often requires a doctor’s care.)
The Proactiv Skin Care System is the brainchild of Stanford-trained dermatologists Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields, who have truly revolutionized acne treatment. Although my daughter has used many other acne treatments in the past (some successfully, others less so), Proactiv is not just one product, but a whole skin care system.
Why is this so important? Each Proactiv product focuses on a different acne cause, from clearing pores of dead cells and dirt, to drying up oil. Cleaning alone won’t work. Nor will drying up oil. But, when used together, the proprietary formulas in Proactiv kill bacteria, help reduce irritation, and exfoliate skin so pores won’t clog.
After a few weeks of Proactiv, my daughter’s skin is simply beautiful and she has the confidence to face the challenges that lie ahead… even those dreaded college applications!
