Fair Isle Infinity Scarf: Tradition… Updated

Traditional Fair Isle PatternThis fall, I’m returning to my roots… fashion-wise, that is! You see, my favorite designers are showcasing stunning fall ensembles in luxurious tweeds and plaids, newsboy caps, argyles, equestrian-inspired footwear, and lots and lots of traditional Fair Isle patterns. I am in heaven!

In my younger years, this luxe, 1950s collegiate-inspired look was de rigueur. Back then, some of my favorite pieces included a houndstooth jacket in sand and hunter green tones with caramel colored suede elbow patches, an enormous silk scarf sporting images of quails in muted tones of dark red, buff and chocolate, and – my ultimate favorite – a deliciously soft plum-colored Fair Isle 3-button pullover sweater (which was actually  immortalized in one of my school portraits!).

Happily for me, this fall, traditional Fair Isle patterns are no longer confined to just pullovers and cardigans. Variations on the pattern can now be found incorporated into almost every piece in the closet!  From dresses, to vests, to leggings and minis… the Fair Isle is simply everywhere.

One of the most intriguing ways to wear the traditional pattern is with an oh-so-modern infinity scarf. I love infinity scarves, because not only are they beautiful, there are also incredibly easy. No fussing with scarf ends, no pinning into place, no complicated knots or twists – simply wrap it twice and you’re done. Perfect for a stylish woman on-the-go!

FRAAS has created a new line for fall that takes the beloved Fair Isle pattern and reinvents it for fashion-conscious women, giving it a twist. The FRAAS Fair Isle Infinity Scarf, pictured, is crafted from wool, nylon and acrylic and is so lightweight, it makes the perfect transitional piece for fall. On-trend color combinations include navy/turquoise, camel/ivory, rose/petal (my personal fave!) and black/grey. Retail: $40.

FRAAS, based in Germany, has become my favorite source for scarves of all kinds, plus wraps, capes, and other accessories. You might be unfamiliar with the FRAAS brand, but the firm was actually founded in 1880. There are FRAAS offices worldwide in New York, Toronto, London, Paris, Berlin, Denmark, Italy, India, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo – so, a distinctly international point-of-view is a given.

In fact, the firm’s design teams regularly travel to major shows and forecasting seminars across the globe to identify new trends, and revive old ones, like the Fair Isle pattern. The firm’s research team, meanwhile, works unceasingly to develop and discover new yarns, fabric and methods of manufacturing products that are of truly outstanding quality.

In addition to these gorgeous Fair Isle Infinity Scarf patterns, FRAAS also offers stunning scarves in silk, wool, cotton and more. In fact, the selections offered are so varied, the choices are dizzying!
