Eco Friendly Corn Resin Watch From Sprout

Eco Friendly Corn Resin Watch From SproutI love learning new things! At Fashion Week this fall I became more educated about green fashion in just a few days than I ever thought possible. Some of the most exciting facts I learned involve the huge variety of alternative, eco-friendly materials that forward-thinking companies are incorporating into their designs. I already had experience with the luxurious, soft fabric that firms like Casualmere create out of bamboo and I was definitely a fan of firms that use reclaimed precious metals like WHIMSY jewelry. But an eco friendly corn resin watch? Really?

My instruction in new green materials like corn resin was facilitated by the folks at Sprout, a firm that creates stunning watches from – yes! – corn resin. Since the watch bracelet is made from corn, it comes from a renewable resource. And in a compost environment, corn resin is 99% biodegradable to carbon dioxide and water within just 365 days.

Of course, to this eco-minded fashionista, environmentally friendly fashion had also better look good.  The Sprout watches feature a highly polished case and bracelet with stainless steel fold-over closure, mineral crystal lens, natural mother of pearl dial with eight sparkling diamonds and polished silver tone numbers. The watches come in a rainbow of fun, funky shades (my personal fave is the snowy white, pictured). Casual chic at its best!

Spout watches are also built to last. This company has been in the business of making timepieces for over 50 years. Their valuable knowledge and technical expertise, plus a real passion for the traditions of watch making mean that when your purchase a Sprout watch, you receive a high quality timepiece that you can rely on for years to come.

So where can you buy one of these great watches? Sprout watches are available at fine retailers nationwide.

I enjoyed reading about all the elements they use to create thier product. Althought they are not 100% “green,” they do what they can with the resources they use. I love buying from a company that boasts that attribute. Thanks for the giveaway!

I learned that most lenses in the medium price range of watches are made from plexiglass, a type of synthetic plastic. Sprout® lenses are made from Mineral crystal which is a type of glass made from sand. It can technically be recycled.

I learned that Sprout’s Mission Statement is:

Simply put, our mission is to make the most eco-friendly watch we possibly can. We don’t believe in inflated claims with lots of exclamation points at the end (no one likes to be screamed at). What we do is tell you the truth about who we are, what we do and what we can & can’t do to make our product more environmentally friendly. We believe in promising less and delivering more.
