Fall Fashion Must Haves at Bargain Prices

Fall Fashion Must Haves at Bargain PricesNow is a great time to pick up fall fashion must haves at bargain prices. Mass market giants like Macy’s and specialty boutiques alike are offering steep discounts on winter merchandise in order to make room for spring and summer pieces.

This means that a savvy shopper can pick up next year’s go-to pieces at a fraction of their original cost, if she knows what to look for!

I’ve spent some time reviewing the fall RTW runways shows and there are a few trends that I think will be the ones to watch for when you are bargain shopping:

  • Fur (real and faux) was everywhere.
  • Belted dresses, shirts, and sweaters. Wide or narrow, buy yourself a belt (or ten?) for fall.
  • Gray, charcoal and silver. For sweaters, dresses, coats and eveningwear.
  • Boots. In every height, in every color, in every material.

Here are highlights from a few of my favorite designers. No matter what your personal style – from California casual to New York City Social Register, there were some truly gorgeous pieces. This is my guideline to what designers will be showing for fall – so you can start shopping now.

Mod. Tom Ford showed lots of great leather, fishnet stockings, maxi dresses, psychedelic faux fur, and boots, boot, boots. No budget? No problem. Get the mod look with wide-eyed kohl rimmed eyes, flat ironed hair and a monochromatic ensemble.

Artisanal. Snuggly sweaters in mohair were the signature look at Calvin Klein. But, these were not Great Aunt Ida’s hand knit creations! Color, texture, pattern were detailed and delightful. A black and white palette was made less stark through the thoughtful choice of materials. And, shots of vibrant orange were the perfect hue to complement fall’s changing leaves. Get the look (at a fraction of the cost) with a great knit scarf which you can casually toss over any outfit.

Pop Art… at Chanel (shocking!). Bright, belly baring, sneaker-boot hybrid wearing models frolicked on a runway resembling a grocery store. Did I mention this was at Chanel? Oversized sweater coats, rounded shoulders, pants under dresses, oil slick leggings. Umm… did I mention this was at Chanel?

Embellished. At Dolce & Gabbana, every piece was a work of art, loving embellished, embroidered, enhanced… I am running out of adjectives for how stunning these pieces were. The show was overflowing with pure fantasy. Motifs to watch for include foxes, owls, and especially keys (a must-have!).

Ladies who Lunch. At Hermès, the look was luxurious – no surprise! I was drawn to the smooth, elegant fabrics – from silk, to satin, to lightweight wool – in subtle shades like charcoal, caramel, sand, navy, and ivory. Belted dresses were a highlight, including one belted leather stunner. If I could sum up the show in one word it’s “wearable.” It’s how real (fashionable) women live.

Glam. What else would you expect from Marchesa?  Glorious gowns that looked as if they were lifted straight from the pages of a fairy tale. Cocktail dresses were reminiscent of vintage Hollywood vixens (foxtail wraps included). Shimmer, sparkle, marabou, embellishment, lace appliques in liquid gold, lapis, mustard, garnet, and orange. My personal favorites inlcuded several silvery gray and ivory combinations (some including lustrous gold, as well) that were nothing short of ethereal.

Sophisticated, yet effortless. At Michael Kors, elegant living was embodied in a collection of lust-worthy sweater coats, belted dresses, plus a few slouchy sweaters and menswear inspired trousers à la Katharine Hepburn. There was chic fur trim, fur scarves, fur jackets and even full length fur coats. And a restrained palette of taupe, grey, silver, and black was chic and understated.
