Clear Acrylic Furniture is a Chic Way to Maximize Visual Space

Clear Acrylic Furniture is a Chic Way to Maximize Visual SpaceMy daughter just moved to a (tiny) New York City apartment. And, she is finding that living in a small space can be challenging. Creative storage options, thinking vertically, and multi-functional pieces will solve some “tiny-house” or apartment issues. But visually, furnishings can completely crowd even the most ruthlessly streamlined space. Rather than eliminate necessary items like coffee tables or end tables, one glam solution that we love is to use clear acrylic furniture. Clear acrylic furnishings provide an open, airy feel, yet are still fully functional furniture pieces. Acrylic has less “visual density” than wood or metal, so a room appears larger (and you still have a spot to stash your magazine, coffee mug, or crossword puzzle!).

Of course, clear acrylic furniture is nothing new. According to ApartmentTherapy.com, “Lucite [a brand name for acrylic] was commercially available by 1937. One of the earliest and most famous suites of Lucite furniture was commissioned for Helena Rubinstein’s New York City apartment.”

As a cosmetics entrepreneur, Rubenstein was not only the founder of Helena Rubinstein Incorporated, but also a global arbiter of taste and style for decades. In fact, the Hollywood Glam interior design esthetic that is so perennially popular takes inspiration from some of her over-the-top pieces!

For those of us with slightly more traditional interiors (and more limited budgets), acrylic offers a pop of the unexpected and a way to add a more sophisticated, eclectic look to a home. Combine a piece with a solid colored sofa, a few inherited antiques, a gorgeous rug, and an abstract painting and – voila! You have a space that is Architectural Digest (or at least Pinterest) ready.

One no-fail way to introduce acrylic to your home is through a basic coffee table like those popularized by high-end furniture design firms such as Kartell, Domitalia, Essey and Gus Modern. However, I have found a company based right in Florida that offers that same type of contemporary translucent designs at a fraction of the price.

Acrylic Fabrication of Southeast Florida offers classic designs for clear acrylic furniture such as tables, end tables, consoles, benches, bases, and even “Z” end tables. The pieces are crafted from premium grade, domestic brand acrylic material that has a clearer edge color and is rated “water white” (meaning no detectable color).

One of the best, and most useful pieces, is the classic “U” shaped coffee table (pictured above) which can also double as a bench. Not only is it beautiful, the ¾” material is stronger, more impact and shatter resistant, and lighter in weight than glass.

The Acrylic Coffee Table measures 44″x 16″x 16″ high x 3/4″ thick and is only $399. That is far less than that the $499, $649, and even $1,800 you will find online when looking up comparable pieces!

Plus, all of the pieces made by Acrylic Fabrication of Southeast Florida are in stock and ship within two days via FedEx ground. There is even a 14 day (refund) return policy.

Of course, you don’t have to simply take my word for it. There have been an incredible number of reviews on Amazon reviews. You can read real comments from other customers and see why this company has such an impeccable approval rating.

My daughter loves the acrylic coffee table. And, I think that Helena Rubenstein would approve!

I’ve been noticing some nice acrylic pieces on Pinterest and have been pinning them. Maybe someday. I love this look for the coffee table!
