How to Get Red Carpet Ready

How to Get Red Carpet ReadyThe annual Academy Awards are only a day away and the question on everyone’s lips is not whether Leo can win his first Oscar, or whether Chris Rock will mention #OscarSoWhite, but… what will they wear?

The Red Carpet is already rolled out, and tomorrow the stars will shine – I hope. Every year there are A-list celebs who arrive Red Carpet Ready with fanfare… only to leave me scratching my head. On the biggest night of the year in Hollywood, she chose that?!

Who can forget the travesty worn by Bjork at the 2001 Oscars, the comedic (intentional or not) neon get-up Whoopie Goldberg sported in 1993, or the infamous backwards suit and gangsta hat Celine Dion chose in 1999?

But, as bad as some of the worst outfits are (and there have been some doozies), some of the most memorable ones are actually on my Best Dressed List. In 2002, Kate Winslet was stunning in a red Ben de Lisi column dress, Lupita Nyong’o was one of my all-time faves in her 2014 pale blue pleated ball gown by Prada, and of course, the queen of them all (or at least the princess) was Grace Kelly in 1955 – in a word, perfection.

All of my top picks have one thing in common: simplicity. These elegant and sophisticated gowns allowed the woman wearing them to shine, instead of overpowering her. To me, the worst dressed list of ensembles all practically shout, “trying way too hard to get some media attention over here!”

Above are a few looks that I love. And, although I will not be attending the Oscars, I certainly will be watching. There are sure to be a few surprises both on and off the red carpet. And, who knows? Maybe Leo will nab that golden statuette, after all!
