Fragrant hand soap, plush towels, soothing scented candles… creating an oasis in a guest bath or powder room is easy when you have the right pieces. This summer, I have been on a mission to update and upgrade our downstairs powder room (hosting a party really motivates me!). And, in addition to painting the powder room a refreshing pale blue-green, adding a new curtain, and installing a lovely light fixture, I also made my own hand soap!
Before you get the mistaken notion that I was slaving over a steaming stock pot or out in the fields picking herbs, I have to confess — it was simply a matter of mixing. But the results are fantastic!
Cove Castile Soap is created to be diluted. And, you can easily mix in other ingredients to create your own custom blend. The soap is available in either unscented or lavender. For my “signature” hand soap, I added just a hint of Bulgarian lavender oil from First Botany to the already-lavender soap for even more scent! The unscented version by Cove offers even more possibilities. Combining a variety of essential oils, the options are almost endless.
But what is castile soap? The term castile soap is actually just a fancy name for vegetable oil based soap, which is made in a style similar to original olive oil based soaps from the Castile region of Spain. And, Cove Castile Soap is not only vegetable oil based, it is also made with only all-natural, vegan, and biodegradable ingredients. There are no animal fats or byproducts which can be found in other natural soaps. And, there are no added detergents or foaming agents which can be harmful to your skin.
What Cove Castile Soap does contain is a moisturizing blend of Argan, Hemp and Jojoba oils, as well as Lavender essential oil. These ingredients are crucial, because they each address a specific need:
- Lavender (my favorite scent) is not only wonderfully fragrant, it also offers a host of real benefits from sleep inducing properties, to calming abilities.
- Argan Oil is a highly moisturizing oil derived from the kernels of Moroccan argan trees and is well-known for its vitamin E and essential fatty acids.
- Jojoba Oil is harvested from a shrub common to the southwestern US and Mexico. The oil from this plant is highly prized for use in beauty products because it’s not only colorless and odorless, but also absorbs quickly into skin.
- Hemp Oil is rich in proteins, essential fatty acids Omega-3 and Omega-6, and Vitamin E antioxidants.
Cove Castile Soap is a wonderful soap, which can be mixed in many ways for multiple uses. Personally, I like it best as a liquid hand soap or body wash, but there are many recipies available right on the bottle. And, at $16.99 for 33.8 oz. bottle of “concentrate” this is incredibly well priced!
But, you don’t have to simply take my word for it. Cove provides a 90-day, no questions asked, satisfaction guarantee. If you don’t love this soap, Cove will refund your purchase.
Now that the powder room is complete, I am motivated to take on another room. Maybe the kitchen…
