Fear not! This summer, there are realistic options for those of us searching for a modest, but stylish swimsuit that will make us feel confident and beautiful.
The three key things to look for in the perfect swimsuit? Detail, color and fit.
It’s all in the details
It’s those tiny details that can make all the difference between a ho-hum suit and one with serious style. And, memorable details can accentuate your best features, as well as camouflage any areas you are simply not satisfied with yet.
For example, interest at the neckline draws attention away from the midriff, thighs, and hips. Conversely, you can show off a tiny waist (or whittle one down visually) with banding, cutouts and strategic color.
Choose a suit with details that are placed where you want to draw the eye.
A black and white combination is one of my perennial favorites. And this year, the options are oh-so-sophisticated. Plus, black and white is easy, matches every sarong in my drawer, and (bonus!) is incredibly slimming.
Finally, fit is crucial. Short-waisted? Large bust? Sloped shoulders? The proper fit can correct all these – and more!
And, don’t forget to inspect construction. Not all swimsuits are created equally. No matter how adorable the pattern or style, if the construction is shoddy, if the suit does not have a proper lining, or if the strap / support is weak, you will wear it once — and then it will languish in your drawer.
Most important? Try not to get hung up on size! Instead, choose the swimsuit that is the most flattering (and then simply cut out the size tag).
Add a sassy sarong, cute shades and some fabulous new sandals and you’re ready for a day of fun in the sun. Enjoy!
