I have been a bit absent here this week, as I have been obsessively watching many of the New York Fashion Week runway shows for fall 2016. Although I try to see as many as I can, I confess that I have my favorites. And, one has always been Oscar de la Renta!
Since the 10th grade when I received my very first piece of authentic Oscar de la Renta, I have been a huge fan of the house’s design aesthetic. And, even though Peter Copping took the reins last fall, the classic elegance that makes the Oscar name a favorite with “the ladies who lunch” remains the same.
Fall 2016 is no exception! The entire show was deceptively simple. Some pieces were even throwbacks to the days when Oscar dressed Jackie Kennedy. But, each piece was cleverly created with enough a twist to make it feel thoroughly modern and wearable.
Details worth noting:
- Restrained use of color, predominantly black, silver, claret
- Giant satin bows which fastened at the neck/back of evening clothes
- Oversized cocktail rings in multiples
- Embellished heels on stilettos
- Gem encrusted, embroidered clutches
- Leather skirts
- Sheer, mock turtlenecks
- Subtle damask skirts, jumpers
- Detachable, fur Peter Pan collars for daytime
Although I have highlighted a few of my favorite pieces above, you may choose others. Click below to see the runway show in its entirety.
