I have been a devotee of the Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic design aesthetic since she burst onto the scene in the late 1990s. Her unique method of combining one of a kind treasures with a simple, restful color palette resonated with me then, and still does today. I especially love charming vintage pieces that make my space unique.
Since I always seem to have a full house – family, pets, friends, and a business – I have not been able to embrace the look throughout my home (frankly, white slip covers are simply not compatible with a 140 lb. black dog, three cats, or hoards of teenagers tromping about).
So, the master bedroom has become my Shabby Chic sanctuary.
Lucky for me, my husband is extremely good-natured and never complains about the pink floral quilts, cut crystal lamps, or oh-so-feminine plates, botanical prints, picture frames, and assorted silver bric-a-brac.
Starting my day in a Shabby Chic atmosphere is soothing. Ending each night cocooned in simple luxury makes for a restful night.
Above are a few of my favorite pieces to add a dash of Shabby Chic to your interior this Valentine’s Day. Or, visit Susan Said…SHOP! for some vintage finds — and you may just decide to embrace Shabby Chic all year long.
