Outfitting your child’s dorm room in style with TwinXL.com

When my oh-so-fashionable eldest daughter went away to college, the number of specialty items that she needed to outfit “the stylish dorm room” was staggering. At the top of the list? Twin XL sheets, matching Twin XL comforter, and a Twin XL mattress pad, with a multitude of coordinating toss pillows and a bed skirt (to hide debris!).

Why Twin XL? Well, Twin XL is the most common bedding size in US college dorm rooms. Longer than a standard twin bed, the Twin XL bed has dimensions of 39 x 80 inches. No matter how you tug and pull, standard sheets simply will not fit! (The length of Twin XL fitted sheets should be 80 inches, and Twin XL comforters should be 92 inches.)

So, armed with this new knowledge, off we trooped — to every store in town. At each location we found a pitifully small selection in Twin XL sheets and comforters — the colors and patterns left a lot to be desired. If only we’d known about TwinXL.com!

The TwinXL.com site is truly a one-stop-shop for outfitting any dorm room. TwinXL.com carries a huge selection of sheets, comforters, and mattress pads for both girls and guys. TwinXL.com also carries all-important matching toss pillows, roll pillows, bed skirts – even mattresses! And, TwinXL.com definitely isn’t some off-brand warehouse. You’ll find high-end names like Tommy Hilfiger, Ivy Union and more. Even earth-friendly sheets made of eco-friendly bamboo for the environmentally conscious student!

In fact, TwinXL.com offers so many options, it may be hard to choose. This year, for her new university-owned upperclassman “apartment” (basically a dorm with a tiny bath and even tinier kitchenette), we selected a stunning Violet Hyacinth Twin XL Comforter Set by Ivy Union (pictured above) that would coordinate nicely with her new roommate’s set.

The comforter is designed to hold up to hard use (after all, this isn’t just the bed, it’s the only “couch” in the room, too!). Crafted of easy-care premium microfiber polyester, the shell is very soft to the touch, yet durable. Plus, the double edge stitching and box pattern stitching keeps the “fill” from sliding around and bunching up in one area. And, speaking of filling, a generous 38 oz. of polyester fiber filling means it will stay fluffy and cozy no matter how many times it’s washed (that’s 72% more filling than the standard twin XL comforter available on the market today!). Retail was $99.99, On Sale for only $56.99

We also chose sassy Zebra Print Twin XL Sheets to complement the vibrant purple of the comforter (pictured above). The set includes one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and one pillow case. Smooth, high thread count sheets are several steps above typical starchy, printed dorm sheets you’ll find at retail stores — these are called premium sheets for a reason! Retail $69.99, On Sale $39.99

In addition to a great selection of high quality bedding options, TwinXL.com also has some amazing sales (which are so appreciated since I just paid fall tuition!). Both of my daughter’s pieces are on sale, plus TwinXL.com offers free shipping on orders over $79. If your child lives in a multi-roommate situation or a sorority/fraternity house, other helpful discounts include multiple purchase savings:

  • Buy 6 Sets Save 5%
  • Buy 12 Sets Save 10%
  • Buy 24+ Sets Save 15%

Now her bedroom is completely outfitted to her high style standards (and within my budget). Sigh…if only TwinXL.com carried kitchen necessities. I guess I am off to Target!
