Bamboo Clothing: Beautiful Doie Designs

Bamboo Clothing: Beautiful Doie DesignsEarth Day is fast approaching and to celebrate, the kids and I recycled over 500 lbs. of “naked books”  for a local paper drive. (Get you mind out of the gutter, the books have had their covers removed, rendering them “naked!”) Anyway, it got me thinking … what are some other easy ways to save the Earth? My top answer involved (what else!?) fashion! You see, in my travels lately I’ve found a huge number of clothing and accessories manufacturers switching to greener materials, especially bamboo clothing. According to a Fox News article I read recently, “…bamboo is an “a priori” eco-friendly material because it’s naturally pest-resistant, requires little water, is amazingly regenerative and [is] known to grow a foot a day. Bamboo also has a much lighter environmental impact than pesticide-laden conventional cotton and petroleum-derived nylon and polyester synthetics.”

Bamboo is a grass and is actually the fastest growing plant in the world! It can reach its maximum height in just 3-4 months and reaches full maturity in 3-4 years. It’s also completely sustainable, plus bamboo fiber is 100% biodegradable.

One of the coolest companies I’ve found to incorporate the use of bamboo in its materials is Doie Designs. Doie designer Sara Kirsner’s separates can be put together in a chic, individual way. These pieces are stylish, but casual – definitely created for the woman who is comfortable in her clothes and in her own skin!

Sara’s California Collection for spring was just released and it’s filled with pieces I simply must have! All three of the pieces I’ve highlighted are created using 92% viscose from bamboo.

First, the Big Sur Empire Hoodie. You absolutely can’t have too many. Paired with some shorts at the beach, jeans for a cool summer night, or thrown over a swimsuit on the boat, you won’t want to keep this loungewear staple in the gym! Available in white and silver (shown), black and white, and green and blue. Retail $120.

Next, this sexy one shouldered Laguna tank is a quintessential summer staple. Works with jeans, minis, shorts, skirts… you name it. And the cleverly flattering design hides a multitude of sins! Available in white (as pictured), green and black. Retail $64.
